parisian artist nautil is a music student specialising in acoustics, signal processing, and informatics. his debut single, canopée, utilises analog synths, sampling and personal recordings to emphasize the geometrics of nature and music. on the a-side the lead track, canopée, is a cavernous, pulsing, low-frequency techno colossus destined to hypnotise dark warehouse spaces. on the reverse galdae is a propulsive tecnoid tweaker while mue is designed for head rolling after hours with mesmeric synth drones suspended over a brain melting sub-bass pulse.

the fourth release on the martinez brothers’ cuttin’ headz imprint, the bros from the bronx come up with some old school flavored house vibes with their remix of the basement jaxx feat. sneak “sneakin’ toronto”. they snagged the remix package from the veteran electronic music duo as a lead in to the basement jaxx full length album “juno” expected to be released later in the fall on atlantic jaxx / pias. the vocal version features a flurry of different spoken word phrases chopped up and filtered. the dub is for the vocal-phobic members of the public - a bubbly slice of jackin’ house that will brighten the dance floor.

two brand-new hard electro-funk jams for poplockers from label boss ed dmx. sure to be popular with funk and boogie revivalists as well as electro and breakdance fans. funk steps features a sparse, handclap-heavy beat, an arabian-style synth hook, some very greasy guitar playing and a vocoder lead vocal imploring the listener to get down and do their thing on the dancefloor. space fonk is an uptempo synth-funk number with squelchy synth bass, vocoder hook and live tambourine and guitar. moogs and lazer zaps all over this one. ed dmx continues to dj & perform live around the world: recent bookings include bloc weekend, batofar in paris, berghain in berlin and many more.

a black, very black, vinyl record which stands out compared to previous releases on limited. the sixth chapter of andrea belluzzi’s label is titled black series because its objective is to devastate the ordinary lines of techno and let loose the dark black wings which are the base of the project. on side a, mike storm and transientx4 lead us through a gradual scale of mysterious and mechanical loops capable of hypnotizing while increasing the level of pathos. this culminates the gradual build up to the third track, produced by andrea belluzzi, with a perfect balance between dark techno and ambient in a mental voyage which seems to never lose itself during the entire 7 minutes with the perfect energy for the dancefloor. the record ends with the work of ken karter which, although is strictly mental and super hypnotic, manages to offer a distinct danceable rhythm marked by low frequencies which remain slow but captivating with a wide array of sounds which grow without boring the listener.

sleeper cell is the new collaboration between earthen sea and lovers rock label head ital. recorded over three days and nights in a dark ny winter, * quality of life* reflects a declining america in a winter of its own. corroded dub atmospheres, haunting melodies, subdued flashes of tenderness and occasional searing noise swim together like murky oil in a puddle of grimy water on the side of the road. opening with the entrancing * initiate* , * sleeper cell* welcome the listener into their world, where menacing whispers dance and echo around synth swells and a poignant lead melody. from there, the duo journey through a crumbling and eerily spacious sound world.

we are excited to welcome sebo k to tsuba for his first post-mobilee release with the aquamarine ep. lead cut *reach out* is trademark sebo centering around a nagging bassline and vocal hook that joins the dots between chicago house and modern tech house. *aquamarine* shows a deeper side to sebos production and for the remix we have enlisted one of the true greats, mr fingers aka larry heard. the result is a stunner, with live keys and a bassline that could only come from one of the pioneers of house music.

with his last ep offering on keinemusik, &me displayed himself once again as supplier of anthems that easily reconcile style with general floor purpose. you would think, such an universal and inexhaustible tune as this very “after dark” can only be a lucky hit. but no, he’s knocking out the classic material just like that. another example? catalog number km028, his brandnew “trilogy” ep. the titletrack on a initially places a synth arpeggio behind a kick that in dryness is hardly to excel. the beat of -trilogy- is then seasoned with rimshot patterns until the saturated bassdrum comes in and paves the way to the dancefloor. &me even refines his knack for stoic grooves on this jam and once again shows his sure feeling for suitable vocal features. sabotas croon comes devoid of big gestures and still knows the ropes to appeal to the collective mentality of a clubcrowd. on the flipside, “woods” is living up to its name from the very beginning. woody percussions are thumping within an almost subtropical scenario that’s frequently pervaded by mighty synth clouds. and once again, there’s an arpeggio sneaking in that at some point is taking the lead in this strictly instrumental affair. add a break building that will educe a floor’s complete euphoric potential without going for the rather mindless escalation and there you have it: a b-side that’s actually more of an a-competitor.

it is no easy task to blend the cerebral with the soulful - the two tend to stand at opposing corners in the deep house world and producers are often forced to choose one or the other - to mix both is a lofty aim. maddermodes may not have set out with this merger in mind when launching the project - mental space - but the end result is striking in its effortless fusion. released under the artists own label, shift coordinate points, the ep consists of two tracks: mental space and human science. the titles, of course, lead one to assume there will be a strong degree of technicality and complexity behind the songs and indeed there is, what is surprising is the level of personality and moodiness that also exists.

deep disco warrior the revenge turns in an epic hypnotic mix of slow burning house nailed down by analogue bass and acid. using a filtered vocal it builds slowly as the bottom end is tweeked towards a mesmeric journey through minimal wigged out disco. sleazy mcqueen and romano arcaini turn in a disco inflected house mix with congas, spaces out synths and enough dynamics to keep any dancefloor bubbling. it builds with added percussion and a filtered pad before the lead hits the break and the track comes back in with even more wallop. drug empire is an original off the album and has had support from the likes of rune lindbaek, crazy p’s hot toddy and horse meat disco. said to be inspired by theo parrish’s productions it’s a delicious slice of bass driven deep disco with a nod to the looser end of detroit and chicago. it’s all about the fully locked in three note analogue moog bass which holds down the grooved out drums before breaking to jazzy rhodes at the end. one for the heads.

russias art crime seemingly came out of nowhere with his first record and it blew us all away at phonica. lead track release was pure nineties house nostalgia, a huge reverbed piano over skipping drums that became an instant shop classic. we just couldnt get it out of our heads!

the titanic trio are lead by buzzers. the rise and fall of the metallic droplets oil this mighty techno machine as the march of its kick drum rolls like the constant throb of a diesel engine. dark and deadly. erector pili sees joel delivering a relentless tribal pattern wrapped in dreamy atmospheric and moving waves of synth. final cut pulhapanzak seems to combine elements of both the previous tracks. the ferocity of the lead track and the sweeping, ghostly atmosphere of the second, to create an excellent finale.

acid, no wave and experimental house producer drvg cvltvre has been busy recently. after releasing with chris moss acid on shipwrec in 2014, vincent koreman then served up a full ep of his own, on dutch label cos_mos and is now back once again with a new four track affair on pinkman that comes two years after he offered up the label’s first ep in 2013. up first, * my houz* is a swampy house track with heavy drums, whirring machines and white noise textures all adding up to an intense affair that sounds like little else. then comes * tyranny of the gods* , a slow tempo but high impact track that builds and builds on a nerve lead synth line as frazzled bass props things up from below. dark and weird, occult and rave, its another unique proposition. on the flip, * sleepdealer* is an unbalanced house track with taught, tight bass and is shot through with laser like synths. serene and spaced out, it makes way for closer * crack spirit guide* which is a noisy, intense and brooding fusion of crisp percussion, big walls of synth and chattering drums that really have you on edge. once agin, then, drvg cvltvre has come up with the idiosyncratic goods.

kensuke fukushima is an up and coming talent from japan. growing up heavily influenced by rock and jazz, he learned to play multiple instruments like lead and bass guitar as well as piano. he s had a few previous releases on labels such as onovu & leap records and was featured on a recent v/a ep on roundabout sounds entitled, fly pattern ep. label boss joe babylon reached out to detoit house legend d wynn to remix the title track. for those that don t already know, d wynn was the resident dj at the histroic music institute as well as tour dj for inner city. he s also one half of r-tyme with derrick may.

i am very happy and excited to present the new ep by claudia anderson on singular rec., its her second release on the label and its a real pleasure. she cooked a really varied record once again, liquid forms takes place on a1 and its real voodoo here, the effect of this track is very unique, it’s space and deep, surrounded by many little effects that give such a special result, then comes neutral state, a timeless dub & house feeling, very loopy, that reminded me some stl cuts. be one opens the b… i ve been really sensible to its very sexy percussions play and delayed lead, it transports literally during all the length, its very high quality. to end properly this ep, claudia did a superb ambient cut, everybody knows i love ambient and so here i ve been charmed… its a deep, noisy atmospheric track that close the all perfectly, with simple little percussions that come and go, just what it takes… its a confirmation of all the good i thought about claudias talent, a very subtle, deep and charming record, and i hope you will like it as much as i do! marcelus.

fans of deep house will need little introduction to fred everything and shur-i-kan, two producers synonomous with the true roots of the genre. as you would expect the resulting collaboration is forward thinking deep house with depth and musicality in abundance. lead track common ground is all about the lead line, a delicate arppegiated melody paired with a chicago-esq bassline. there is also dub working the bassline to full effect. ep closer so leena neatly walks the line beween deep house and melodic techno.

apartment returns with a release exploring 3 facets of house music all inter-connected by the vocals of uk soul & rnb singer, greg blackman (bbe music). steve leggets (four hands, claremont 56) original believe mix, the catalyst for the project, is an expansive 10 minute-plus journey through wistful dub lead by blackmans soaring vocals. on the flip mark hand (signals from the north) delivers a re-working, sculpting a beautiful, sun-kissed masterpiece featuring drums and percussion by darren moore alongside hands inspired playing on the rhodes and moog. to close out the release ncw finally makes a return to apt and subsequently gets lost in the dmz pitching and twisting blackmans vocals over a pulsating, bumping house banger.

its winter in detroit and fit siegel has given us * carmine*, a moody techno classic perfect for the lonely season. subtle, low-key and thumping, the title track revolves around a bittersweet piano lead, elegiac 303 and blade runner string swells. its a high-tech driving song in the tradition of model 500s low-key classic * pick up the flow* and fit sounds more assured than ever. * first found* is mills-ian jigsaw puzzle techno imbued with breathy and addictive humanity. stacatto, free-jazz informed piano solos lock into ping-pong synths -- eventually, a female vocal emerges over a bed of arpeggiated bass. loose yet robotic, * first found* is first-rate detroit techno mysticism. the record as a whole is a worthy entry into the motor citys storied canon from a leader of the new school.

nail provides the lead track for fofs latest vinyl only excursion - originally produced in the same time period as the classic tracks on the ode rammel reissue ep earlier in the year, glazed lay dormant on one of nails dats for many years before being rediscovered and given its first airing now on fof. chunky roughed up house beats are the order of the day here, a real peak time groove. new talent harry mccanna, resident at londons infamous undersound nights, debuts with act 1, a beautifully subtle bassline driven groove that rises above the pack with its super warm pad lending the track a warm and fuzzy hypnotic edge. romanian talent zece kicks off the flipside with the most contemporary offering, a breakbeat laden groove with a fx laden vocal snatch underpinned by that all important b-line whilst sonodab rounds things off with a beautifully deep and melodic slice of electro on brown study, the percussive elements giving rise to a hazy melodic pattern for those early hour excursions.

convertion / let s do it was originally released on sam records in 1980. it featured the lead vocals of leroy burgess, who was also the lead vocalist for seminal disco tunes like black ivory / main line and logg / i know you will. the sam records catalogue is currently administered by nervous records. nervous has a long standing relationship with superstar producer louie vega, who with his maw partner kenny dope has produced some of nervous most memorable tunes, including the signature nervous release -the nervous track- by nuyorican soul. louie as always a fan of let s do it and wanted to do a remix. unfortunately the original parts were lost. not to be deterred, louie decided to reproduce the record, once again with lead vocals by leroy burgess. the result....let s do it - a louie vega interpration. b-side boogie mix stays close to the original version. the a side dance ritual mix includes that magic louie vega flavor that will make it an immediate essential item for all dj s. the 12- release will be available two months prior to the digital release

lead track is - calle sevilla that immediately commands attention with it s locked tight groove, piano licks and warm rhodes keys that lead us to the mighty bassline and we re already feeling the intensity. a synth riff comes in and builds to the main break and creates an atmosphere that takes us on a trip to the sunshine coast of maybe ibiza, right before it drops back in!

berlins away music imprint extends a warm welcome here with its debut release, a label inspired by the spirit of the >away< series of parties they have taken from berlin to barcelona, with a launch release from compatriot christian vance. fuelled by an uncompromising ethos that will see the ep via a limited run of 350 vinyl copies, vance is supported on >away music 001< by remixes from nuno dos santos and label bosses discrete circuit themselves. lead record >mustang fm< offers the perfect example of vances polished production talents, a groove-driven techno number that simmers with a midwestern pulse around the edges. the grittiest of the offerings you will find on this ep, its propelled by the twisted riff at its center, around which vance skillfully deploys a cast of hi-hats to compliment his bouncy percussion. strictly limited to 350 copies

mulen marks the arrival of its second vinyl with the release aloft from tish. this kiev-based lady is definitely seen as a key player in the ukrainian underground. the original mix of aloft is stripped-down vogue techno with a funky baseline and tick-tock percussion. the track is flashing out the skippy, atmospheric style one might call mulen s signature sound. under number two we have samples of silence where tish explores possibilities of rhythm and space. the track progresses through a clean path of precision drums to a warmer meditative lead. on the b-side cadenza native valentino kanzyani plugs 9 minute remix of the titled aloft. quoting a minimal running techno, kanzyani stockpile some much-needed tension while keeping the arrangement uncluttered. his hypnotic groove beneath a blunted and ponderous baseline deliver us a darker, more cosmic vibe.
